Straight Outta Māngere was a weekly youth arts programme which offered a range of arts experiences to invited young people, based on their specific interests in creative expression, from spoken word to graffiti art, rap and R&B or hip hop dance.
This term, Lavina Williams ran a free singing and performance workshop each week at the Māngere Arts Centre and the new youth space at the Old Otahuhu Library.
Lavina is a Southside legend, and apart from flourishing in her own career has been a vocal coach and tutor for many different performers. She knows her stuff, so this is a great opportunity for young people between 14 and 18 to learn some new skills, develop confidence and get on stage.
Straight Outta Māngere was a collaboration between the Māngere Ōtāhuhu Community Arts Brokers, Māngere Arts Centre, Strive Community Trust and Child Youth and Family.
