1st April 2023 Falepipi He Mafola Niuean Handcraft Group (Falepipi He Mafola) will celebrate their 30 years with an exhibition at Māngere Arts Centre - Nga Tohu O Uenuku over eight weeks.
Lagi-Maama Academy & Consultancy (Lagi-Maama), under our Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage (MCH) Ngā Kaiwhakaoho Ahurea Cultural Activators Pilot, have working with Molima Molly Pihigia and Falepipi He Mafola on the development of an exhibition and a publication to celebrate their upcoming 30th anniversary. Support from Māngere Ōtāhuhu Arts will enable co-curatorial and community engagement work leading up to the exhibition and publication launch. However, her group Falepipi He Mafola has been meeting weekly, every Thursday, at the Ōtāhuhu Town hall since 1993. Mollima Molly Pihigia QSM, the lead for the Group, has lived in Ōtāhuhu for many, many years before moving to Ōtara in past 5 to 6 years.
The Lagi-Maama team includes Kolokesa Uafā Māhina-Tuai MNZM who has been living in Ōtāhuhu since 2008, over 14 years, and has been active in the cultural, including arts, communities in the Māngere and Ōtāhuhu area.
