Helen Tau’au-Filisi and the Mana Mangere Writers Collective present:
‘Navigating Journeys’ 2019 - Writing Workshops for Teens. Sept - October 2019
A continuation of Mana Mangere writers collective series of short stories and poetry collection with guest writers building and extending and invitation to youth via a series of writing workshops at each of the local libraries in Māngere Ōtāhuhu, taught by self published author, editor and teacher Helen Tau’au-Filisi.
On completion of the workshops, members of the Collective will select which written pieces are published in ‘Navigating Journeys’ 2019.
The criteria for the youth writers to be involved in the workshops and publication are; aged between 13 - 19 and to either: live, work or study in Māngere Ōtāhuhu geographical areas. The short stories or poetry submissions that Helen is particularly interested in publishing for the book is around stories or poetry that resonate with the theme of ‘Navigating Journeys’ and will also make people think or reconsider things from varying perspective/s.

About - Mana Māngere Writers Collective.
Mana Mangere writers collective meet usually monthly at Māngere Town Centre library since 2017 and have two collections that have built on each year. This year we’re looking at writing on the theme of ‘Navigating Journeys’ and drawing from our experiences and interpretations of this centre idea.Each writer must have a connection to Māngere and/or Ōtāhuhu either living, working or studying at an educational institution etc.

“This year, I’m currently living, working and studying in Māngere with now 16 books self-published. I’d like to extend the offering to have 3 x 2 hour workshops at each of the 4 libraries to work on the two genre for submitting youth writing pieces to be considered for the collection. I have taught short story writing and poetry writing as a qualified English teacher (many years ago) with a Masters in Creative Writing from AUT (2013) specialising in Novel writing and poetry.” - Helen.
