Migrate-Stay-Transit
Creator: Dr Brent Harris
Artform: Performaning Arts
Timeframe: November 2021 - July 2022
Location: Ōtāhuhu Town Centre
Project Summary
Migrate-Stay-Transit will incorporate a series of open-rehearsals and test-performances from November 2021-July 2022; two advertised public site-responsive performances in Ōtāhuhu in September 2022; and a collaborative publication subsequent to the performances.
Local performance artist Brent Harris will lead the project. Building on Brent’s existing partnerships and completed projects in the Ōtāhuhu community, the project will develop through collaborations with local business people, artists, designers and other community members.
Rather than work through a model where closed or ‘private’ rehearsals are followed by a ‘public’ performance, Migrate-Stay-Transit will develop through small-scale public performance testing and open rehearsals/ workshops. Migrate-Stay-Transit will engage directly with people who operate businesses in the Mainstreet shopping area of Great South Road in Ōtāhuhu.
Brent has more than 20 years professional experience in performance practice, teaching and research. Specifically, Migrate-Stay-Transit develops on his recent completed site-responsive projects in Ōtāhuhu;
‘Strange Gestures’ in Artweek Auckland 2019 (supported by Mangere Otahuhu Arts), latching doors opening windows – a short story in Tempo’s online Dance Festival in 2020, and Voice Tide Ōtāhuhu (2021).
