EXHIBITION: MASSEY STATION
"Massey Station" is a portrait series by local photographer Vinesh Kumaran, capturing the spirit and dedication of the members of the Manukau Live Steamers, a miniature locomotive club based in Māngere, Auckland.
Driving on the South Western Motorway, Kumaran often found himself curious about the train tracks winding through Māngere Centre Park. He later discovered that the tracks belonged to a miniature locomotive club—the Manukau Live Steamers. Founded in 1981, this community brings together a dedicated group of train enthusiasts who share a passion for the mechanics of how trains work.
What sets the Manukau Live Steamers apart is not only their commitment to preserving the art of miniature locomotives, but also their generosity in offering affordable train rides.
Through this project, Kumaran aims to celebrate the individuals who bring these trains to life, highlighting their love for the hobby and their valuable service to the people of South Auckland.
