PLAYWRITING PROGRAMME FOR NEW ZEALAND MĀORI AND PASIFIKA WRITERS

Playmarket's Brown Ink development programme is looking for Māori and Pasifika writers with the best new, exciting plays.
Plays selected for development for Brown Ink programme that have gone on to professional productions include Hīkoi by Nancy Brunning (Auckland Arts Festival 2015), The Mooncake and the Kumara by Mei Lin Hansen (Auckland Arts Festival 2015), Girl on a Corner by Victor Rodger (Auckland Fringe Festival 2015), Officer 27 by Aroha Awarau and I Ain’t Mad At Chaby Turene Jones.
ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Submissions are open to any New Zealand citizen/permanent resident of Māori or Pasifika heritage regardless of age or experience. Plays must not have had a professional production (pending productions, readings, workshops or community productions are fine). There are no limits on length, style or theme.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Download and complete the submission form, available as a Word Document here, or a PDF here.
Send your script in WORD or PDF format to competitions@playmarket.org.nz with the submission form.
Ensure you include with your script:
• a list of characters
• a brief synopsis
• a separate page with your name, the name of the play, and a brief bio
• AND - please ensure the pages are numbered
Please also include:
• confirmation that you are a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
• confirmation that the play has not had a professional production
• confirmation that the play is all your own original work
PRIZE
Selected plays will win a day-long script clinic with a professional director, cast and script advisor.
